Scott sworn in as newest 39th District Representative

Rep. Elizabeth Scott, R-Monroe, took the oath of office on Jan. 14 to serve her first term as a 39th District State Representative.

“I have been looking forward to this day for a long time. I can't wait to get to work on creating smaller, smarter government,” Scott said.

Scott moved to Washington from Illinois to attend college at Seattle Pacific University. After spending time overseas teaching English to university students, she chose to come back to Snohomish County to raise her family and teach at four Washington community colleges.

During the 2013 legislative session Scott will serve on three House committees:

  • the Capital Budget Committee which considers the state capital budget and approves money for the construction and repair of public buildings; 20130114_LegWA_1193sc
  • the Early Learning and Human Services Committee which considers issues relating to early learning from birth to kindergarten, as well as a broad array of issues affecting children and families; and
  • the Higher Education Committee which considers issues relating to the state's public and independent baccalaureate colleges and universities, public community and technical colleges, and private career schools.

“My committee assignments really reflect my priorities as a legislator. We need to provide early learning options for families from all incomes. Higher Education institutions deserve more flexibility in how they allocate funding. I also look forward to making sure responsible budgeting principles are applied to our capital projects,” Scott said.

In addition, Scott will serve in caucus leadership as an assistant whip, responsible for assisting with the duties of the Republican Whip in monitoring attendance during floor sessions and caucus meetings, and acting in the absence of the Whip.

Scott's Olympia office will be maintained by her Legislative Assistant, Ashley Stokesbary. Contact information for the Representative is as follows:
